Garrow

Site type: DMH

This site lies in one of the most isolated locations in Cornwall. There is evidence of roads, crofts and buildings. [1] A platform house on the site has been investigated by excavation. [2] There are approximately five longhouses among the buildings [1]. The remains of the village can be seen on aerial photographs. There is also an associated field system nearby which may have had links to the village. [1] The excavated evidence shows the buildings to be in use between the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries. [2] It has been suggested that the settlement after this date reduced to a single farmstead which was abandoned in the nineteenth century. [3] There is no documentary evidence to help plot the fortunes of the settlement.

Appears in the Gazetteer of Deserted Medieval Villages known in 1968.
