Lanyon

Site type: DMH

There are approximately three buildings that have been identified at the site, just to the north of the pointer on the website. [1] The area is now very much overgrown but was excavated in 1964. [1, 2] The rectangular buildings that have been investigated have been dated from the twelfth century. [2] Occupation lasted until the late fifteenth or sixteenth century. [1] In 1390 there is a record of a chapel at Lanyon but this was located close to the present Lanyon Farm suggesting the focus of the settlement has shifted northwards by the late fourteenth century. [1]

Appears in the Gazetteer of Deserted Medieval Villages known in 1968.
